{"fatawa":{"id":7757,"title":"Virtues of Surah al-Jumu\u2019ah","slug":"virtues-of-surah-al-jumuah","order":"","question":"Could you please tell me the importance of Surah al-Jumu\u2019ah and is it preferred to be read on the day of Jumu\u2019ah like reading Surah al-Kahf on the day of Jumu\u2019ah.","answer":"Praise be to Allah.\r\nThere is no particular saheeh (authentic) text which speaks of the virtues of Surah al-Jumu\u2019ah, rather it was narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite it in the first rak\u2019ah (unit) of the Jumu\u2019ah prayer. It was narrated from Ibn \u2018Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite al-Jumu\u2019ah and al-Munafiqoon in the Jumu\u2019ah prayer. Narrated by Muslim (879). \r\n\r\nIt says in al-Saheeh wa\u2019l-Saqeem min Fadail al-Quran al-Kareem by Amal Sa\u2019di (p.81): There is no saheeh report from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about the virtues of Surah al-Jumu\u2019ah. There are da\u2019eef (weak) and mawdoo\u2019 (fabricated) reports about its virtues, such as, \u201cThe one who recites Surah al-Jumu\u2019ah will be given hasanat (good) in reward equal to the number of those who come to Jumu\u2019ah and those who do not in the Muslim regions\u201d \u2013 narrated by al-Tha\u2019labi in al-Kashf wa\u2019l-Bayan (9\/305), via Abu \u2018Asmah ibn Abi Maryam, the well known fabricator and liar. Hence al-Manawi said in al-Fath al-Samawi: it is mawdoo\u2019. End quote. \r\n\r\nBut Surah al-Jumu\u2019ah is one of the mufassal surahs (those in the latter part of the Quran) which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said he was favoured with above all other Books and Prophets. It was narrated from Wathilah ibn al-Asqa\u2019 that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: \u201cI have been favoured with al-Mufassal.\u201d\r\n\r\nNarrated by Ahmad (4\/107); classed as saheeh by al-Albani in Bidayat al-Sool, p.59.
